In the academic year 2025/26, the University of Trento launched a University education project for ten international students from conflict zones.
The project is aimed at people who are outside of Italian territory, come from a conflict zone and are unable to start or continue their university studies in safe conditions due to conflict, instability or danger.
Successful candidates will have access to a one-year university education programme (Foundation Year), during which they will be able to attend single courses and/or preparatory courses to possibly continue their university studies.
Target audience
- The project is open to individuals who meet all of the following requirements:
- citizenship of a country outside of the EU
- residence outside of Italian territory
- originating from a conflict zone
- current inability to begin or continue university studies in safe conditions, due to conflict,
instability and/or real danger - at least 12 years of schooling and a qualification suitable for access to higher university
education in Italy (see Art. 3).
Admission requirements and required documentation
- A copy of an identity document must be attached to the online application.
- The circumstances leading to the candidate’s impossibility of continuing their university

studies in safe conditions, due to the situation of conflict, instability and/or real danger,
can be described in the online application by filling in the section titled ‘Letter of
motivation’. - Without prejudice to the provisions of paragraph 5 below, in order to demonstrate
completion of a course of study that allows access to a bachelor’s or master’s level
degree course in Italy, the following documents must be submitted in the online
application:
– final upper secondary school qualification, obtained after a minimum of twelve years
of study and allowing access to university studies in Italy; or
– a bachelor’s degree that allows access to a master’s level degree programme in
Italy;
– any additional documentation certifying previous studies. - If the applicant does not have all or part of the documents necessary to verify their
previous studies, they must fill in the document titled ‘Study history’ (available at
https://www.unitn.it/en/students-at-risk), which must be attached, completed in full, to the
online application. In this case, it is recommended that the document be completed
using the original language names of any qualifications obtained. - Applicants may also submit additional documentation with their online application if they
have it:
- language certificates;
- other academic or professional qualifications;
- comparability certificates already in their possession (CIMEA or EQPR);
- CV.
Scholarship and financial support
- During the Foundation Year, students admitted to the programme will receive:
– a scholarship of €7,200.00, paid in two instalments. The first instalment will be
paid upon the student’s arrival at the University of Trento. The second
instalment will be paid upon attendance of the courses referred to in Art. 4 or
upon passing an exam during the summer/autumn session of the 2025/26
academic year. The scholarship is incompatible with similar financial benefits
provided by the University or other public or private entities;
– exemption from payment of university fees for enrolment in single courses;
– exemption from payment for the following courses offered by the University
Language Centre (CLA):
o Italian language up to B2 level;
o English language up to the level required by the study plan of the degree
programme in which the student intends to enroll starting from the 2026/27
academic year;
– coverage of costs related to:
o travel from the country of residence to Trento;
o procedures related to the issuance of a residence permit;
o enrolment in the National Health Service or private health insurance.
Additional forms of support
During the Foundation Year, students admitted to the project will be entitled to the following forms of additional support:
– accommodation in a double room at the facilities of the Institution for the Right of Study (Opera Universitaria di Trento);
– card for two free meals per day (seven days a week) at university canteens, provided by the Institution for the Right of Study (Opera Universitaria di Trento);
– access to dedicated academic tutoring and guidance services (UniTrento);
– access to a dedicated psychological counselling service (UniTrento and Centro Astalli Trento);
– access to legal support services (Centro Astalli Trento);
– access to sports activities in collaboration with UniTrento Sport (UniTrento);

– free annual pass for urban and extra-urban transport in the Province of Trento (UniTrento);
– reception and integration activities in the local community (UniTrento and local associations and organizations).
